Weekly mentoring groups
We host weekly, co-ed leadership groups for our upper-middle school and high school-aged youth (Junior Leaders), and a program for our elementary school-aged through early middle school youth(Young Leaders). These groups focus on various topics such as leadership, service, self awareness, decision-making, goal-setting, and communication.
During non-COVID times, these groups include sharing a meal with one another, a fun and interactive activity, and a time of sharing and learning. Currently, due to stay-at-home restrictions, these groups take place weekly over Zoom.

One-on-One Mentoring
Youth can also voluntarily be paired with a mentor who meets with them in person or over Zoom. This relationship focuses on emotional support, decision-making, goal-setting and academic support.
COVID-19 Distance Learning Support Program
Urban Mentors offers youth various forms of academic support through:
- In Person Distance Learning Pods: Small groups of youth attend learning pods where support, encouragement, and tutoring is offered, wi-fi is provided and strict safety protocols are implemented.
- Virtual Tutors: Youth may sign up for one-on-one tutoring which takes place over Zoom.
- Academic supplies: If a family is in need of required school supplies, Urban Mentors offers support.
COVID-19 Care Package Program
Due to the added strain of the pandemic, Urban Mentors began our monthly care package program in March 2020. Youth, mentors, and other volunteers participate in the shopping, packing and delivery of these packages that include a variety of grocery, household, hygiene, and activity supplies. This essential program has allowed us to stay connected and tuned into one another’s needs during this stressful time.
Summer Programs
While our mentoring groups take a summer break, we keep our community connected and supported with periodic “family nights,” where all of our youth and their families are invited to join us for a meal, some fun, and encouragement.
